US Authorities Arrest Suspect in $46 Million Government Wallet Theft

FBI has arrested John Daghita, suspected of stealing $46 million in digital assets from a U.S. Marshals Service crypto wallet. At the end of January, his identity was revealed by on-chain investigator ZachXBT.

According to FBI Director Kash Patel, the suspect was apprehended on the island of Saint Martin in cooperation with French law enforcement.

It took American authorities just over a month to respond to ZachXBT’s investigation. The latter managed to track down Daghita thanks to bragging on Telegram — in one of the chats, the perpetrator, using the pseudonym Lick, revealed his wallet. Through it, the on-chain sleuth traced the movement of the stolen funds.

The stolen assets were linked to a U.S. government seizure in the Bitfinex exchange case.

According to ZachXBT, the arrested individual is the son of CMDSS CEO Dean Daghita. In 2024, the firm signed a contract with the Marshals Service to assist in managing some seized cryptocurrencies.

Meanwhile, the FBI director referred to Daghita Jr. as a “government contractor” in his post, though his specific position at CMDSS is unknown.

Following the suspect’s arrest, ZachXBT posted separately. He stated that the perpetrator abused access to his father’s company to commit the crime.

“John [Daghita] repeatedly mocked me through his Telegram channel and attacked my public wallet with stolen funds. Thanks for the last laugh, John,” added the on-chain investigator.

Earlier, in February, ZachXBT accused Axiom trading platform manager Brooks Bauer of leaking user data for insider trading.
