Strategy Launches Bitcoin Security Consortium

Strategy has announced the launch of the Bitcoin Security Consortium. Partners in the initiative plan to invest $15 million over three years to enhance the long-term security of the Bitcoin network.

Founding members include Anchorage Digital, ARK Invest, BlackRock, Block, Blockstream, Coinbase, Fidelity Digital Assets, Galaxy, and Strategy.

The consortium has set two goals:

  • to fund developers and researchers;
  • to inform the community about the state of blockchain security.

“As long-term BTC holders, we are interested in ensuring Bitcoin remains secure for future generations. Funding and supporting developers is a natural way to contribute,” said Strategy CEO Phong Le.

The group does not intend to directly alter the protocol of the first cryptocurrency or speak on behalf of its developers. Each consortium member independently decides how to allocate funds.

The first focus area identified by the organization is preparing for long-term risks from quantum computing. Strategy emphasized that currently, there are no quantum computers capable of posing a mass threat to the cryptography of digital gold.

“Nevertheless, preparing post-quantum defenses is an important long-term priority that the Bitcoin technical community is already actively working on. The consortium aims to support this work and provide a reliable reference point for investors, the public, and the media as this field develops,” the press release stated.

The operational work of the Bitcoin Security Consortium will be coordinated by Brink Executive Director Mike Schmidt. He participates in the initiative as a volunteer, independently of the participating companies.

In the coming months, the consortium plans to release educational materials on Bitcoin security and continue funding the developer community.

Earlier, on July 21, Galaxy launched a similar program to prepare Bitcoin for potential threats from quantum computers, allocating up to $5 million in grants for developers and researchers.
