Suno developers have unveiled the sixth version of their music generator. The update was developed in collaboration with major labels: Warner Music Group, BMG, and Believe.
The new model is trained exclusively on licensed data. TechCrunch journalists linked this to ongoing copyright lawsuits against Suno. A day before the release of the sixth version, the company admitted to collecting data from YouTube videos.
The update includes three versions of the AI model:
- v6 — the main algorithm for Pro and Premier subscribers. It follows prompts accurately and delivers predictable results;
- v6-wild — a model for creative experiments (available via paid subscription). It generates unconventional and unexpected compositions;
- v6-mini — a fast basic version. Available to all users for free.
In the sixth generation, developers focused on precise control over compositions. New editing tools have been introduced:
- Spot changes: users can request changes to only the chorus or correct a single word in the lyrics, leaving the rest of the song unchanged;
- Sample isolation: the AI can isolate individual instruments. For example, users can extract a guitar riff from the middle of a track and overlay it with a different beat;
- Mashups: the algorithm can mix vocals from one generated song with drums from another;
- Multimodality: music can now be created based on uploaded images, videos, and voice recordings.
Suno will soon fully transition to the v6 generation, and older models will be removed from the platform.
In the future, the company plans to launch new products to support real musicians. Artists will be able to voluntarily provide their data for generation and receive a percentage from the platform, while fans can legally create tracks in their style.
As of September 3, Suno has implemented strict limits on track downloads.
