ViaBTC Clarifies Account Access Restrictions

Users of ViaBTC have reported account blocks and withdrawal restrictions. Representatives of the mining pool explained the reasons for these measures in a comment to ForkLog.

According to them, in recent weeks, fraudsters have been convincing miners to connect to the pool through fake addresses, intercepting their hashrate and income. In response, the ViaBTC team sent notifications to users, reminding them to use only the platform’s official addresses.

To protect users, technical specialists temporarily restricted access to some accounts that were potentially at risk.

“The blocks and restrictions will be gradually lifted once it is confirmed that the threat is completely eliminated. These measures are purely protective and are not related to any other factors,” ViaBTC emphasized.

Representatives of the mining pool specifically noted that the documents requested from some users are used solely for verification to prevent power interception, not for standard verification procedures.

Some restrictions have already been lifted. The support service is working intensively to restore access.

ViaBTC’s decision followed a wave of user complaints, primarily from Russia, about unexpected account blocks and demands to provide a set of documents.

Users reported that blocks often occurred when using VPNs or changing pool addresses.

In October, the cryptocurrency exchange aggregator BestChange restricted ruble transactions for 95 services.
