Nvidia and Naver to Expand AI Facility in South Korea to 200 MW

Nvidia, Naver, and Brookfield have announced a significant expansion of AI infrastructure in South Korea. The partners plan to increase the capacity of the AI Factory under construction at the GAK Sejong data center from 55 MW to 200 MW by 2028.

The project aims to deploy gigawatt-scale infrastructure for training and launching new AI models.

The initiative involves strategic investments of up to $10 billion:

  • Nvidia plans to invest $1 billion;
  • Brookfield is prepared to provide up to $9 billion in project financing;
  • Naver will contribute the remaining capital.

The new computing complex will be built on the NVIDIA DSX platform using Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems, targeting both South Korean and American AI companies.

In June, Naver had already announced the expansion of GAK Sejong to 55 MW. The new plan more than triples the previously stated scale.

Reuters: Samsung and SK Group Sign $950 Billion AI Deals

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung announced new AI initiatives worth $950 billion involving Samsung Electronics, SK Group, and American tech companies at the AI Summit in San Francisco, according to Reuters.

According to the agency, SK Group signed agreements worth $750 billion. The largest segment is a partnership between SK Hynix and Nvidia exceeding $500 billion for building large-scale AI data centers and supplying next-generation memory.

SK Telecom plans to launch a 2 GW data center in 2027 using Vera Rubin chips and HBM4 from SK Hynix.

Samsung Electronics signed a memorandum with Broadcom for up to $200 billion. The companies agreed to collaborate in memory, contract chip manufacturing, and advanced packaging. Samsung will also participate in developing Broadcom’s next-generation AI accelerator based on its HBM memory and provide sub-2 nm process technology and packaging solutions.

Earlier, former OpenAI researcher Daniel Kokotajlo suggested pausing the AI race until 2040 due to the threat of human extinction.
