Safeheron and RFI to Test Post-Quantum Security with Banks and Regulators

The Responsible Fintech Institute (RFI) and Safeheron have announced an interregional project to test post-quantum cryptography for digital asset transactions. Banks and regulators have joined the initiative.

The pilot aims to assess how quantum-resistant infrastructure handles wallet generation and digital asset transfers. Safeheron serves as the technology partner, while the Responsible Fintech Institute (RFI) coordinates participants, governance, and cross-jurisdictional interactions.

The program is based on a 2-of-2 MPC protocol supporting ML-DSA-65, a digital signature standard by NIST FIPS 204. Researchers will test wallet generation and on-chain transfers in a quantum-resistant testnet of NEAR. The project will also examine cross-border compatibility, operational resilience, and governance requirements.

Participants include regulators from the Abu Dhabi Global Market, the Financial Services Authority of Gelephu (Bhutan), and the Malta Financial Services Authority, as well as Bison Bank and DK Bank.

In the first phase, government bodies will act as observers, and in the next phase, they will engage in governance matters.

Following the testing, the authors plan to release a white paper detailing the research, protocol design, and results. They also intend to open-source the protocol’s core technology for independent audit and industry use.

Representatives from RFI and Safeheron linked the pilot’s launch to the goal of preparing critical financial infrastructure for the transition to post-quantum cryptography. The project aims to demonstrate how such solutions perform within regulated financial organizations.

Earlier, in August, crypto bank Anchorage Digital unveiled a strategy for preparing institutional assets for the post-quantum era.
