WSJ: Anthropic to Deploy Computing Power at Hut 8 Campus

The computing power that Anthropic will acquire from cloud provider Lambda as part of a multibillion-dollar deal will be deployed at Hut 8’s Beacon Point campus in Texas, according to The Wall Street Journal.

According to the publication, Nvidia is leasing the relevant capacity from Hut 8. Lambda will install Nvidia’s accelerators at the site and provide services to Anthropic.

A source from Reuters reports that the AI developer’s agreement with the cloud provider is valued at approximately $35 billion, with the project involving around 350 MW of capacity in Texas. It is noted that this amount pertains specifically to the agreements between Anthropic and Lambda.

At the time of writing, shares of the mining company have dipped into the “red zone,” falling to $76.22.

Previously, Hut 8 announced two long-term contracts for leasing capacity at Beacon Point but did not disclose the counterparty. The company also did not confirm the involvement of Lambda and Anthropic in the project or specify which of the two agreements this arrangement pertains to.

In August, IREN reported that revenue from cloud AI services surpassed income from Bitcoin mining for the first time.
