ZKP Startup Boundless Shifts Focus to AI

Boundless, initially focused on ZKP computations on the Bitcoin network, is expanding its distributed GPU network to support AI model inference tasks, according to a statement from the management.

According to Boundless CEO Shiva Shankar, the company operates a network of about 4,000 GPUs, optimized by developers for AI computing needs. Initially, it served as a coordinator and verifier, facilitating connections between the Ethereum mainnet, the Base layer-two network, and Bitcoin.

The company stated that initial benchmark tests show inference costs nearly 50% lower than major cloud providers (especially for asynchronous tasks) due to the use of cheaper resources, including consumer-grade graphics cards and equipment previously purchased for cryptocurrency mining and proof generation.

According to the statement, Boundless will continue working with ZKP, though no details were disclosed.

The company also plans to integrate its native token, ZKC, into the new direction, requiring AI operators to stake the coin to join the network. The stake size will be “tied to potential revenue.”

The announcement from Boundless did not specify business strategy details, but the shift in focus highlights a trend towards AI computing in the crypto industry.

In July, it was reported that TeraWulf raised $3.5 billion for a data center for Anthropic.
